Frequently asked questions
Is Meri really free?
Yes, to start. All signs, 28 basic chapters, unlimited practice and 3 mock exams a day are free (with ads). To unlock every chapter with no ads you need a voucher code from your driving school. Nothing can be bought inside the app.
Do I need internet?
Only once, to enter your code. After that, lessons, signs, practice and mock exams work offline. Your voucher status refreshes whenever you're online (at least every couple of weeks).
Is this an official government app?
No. Meri is an independent study app. Its content follows the Ethiopian driver handbook and is written in our own words. It isn't affiliated with the government and doesn't replace the official test.
Why isn't it on Google Play yet?
We're setting up our Google Play publisher account. Until then you can download it from this page, and this version works for invited people only. We'll announce the Play release here and on our social pages.
Android showed a warning. Is it safe?
Android asks you to allow "install unknown apps" for anything outside Google Play, and Play Protect can warn about new apps. If you downloaded from this page, compare the file's SHA-256 with the one shown here. Never install a copy sent from elsewhere.
What if I change or lose my phone?
Your voucher is linked to one phone. You can move it to a new phone from inside the app up to 2 times, 24 hours apart. If your phone is lost or broken, ask your school; they can release the code.
What about my data?
Your study progress stays on your phone and we don't ask for your name. Details are in our privacy policy.
